LEC Conference Program Overview 2014

About LEC

The Language and  Education Conference (LEC) has been an annual conference organized by USIM under Faculty of Major Language Studies since 2011.  This conference provides a platform for an annual assembly of academicians, educators, language practitioners, industry professionals, teachers, teacher trainers, students and other like-minded individuals from the fields of language or education; or both.

Every year the theme of the conference is alligned to mirror the current issues and needs in the field of Language and Education. This year, LEC 2014 returns with a new theme:  “Shaping Holistic World-Class Nations through Language and Education.”

Thus, LEC 2014 is organised to achieve the following objectives:

The Organizer

The Faculty of Major Language Studies was established in 2004 with its first student intake for the Bachelor of Arts in Arabic and Communications during the 2005/2006 academic session. The faculty was founded with the aim to produce knowledgeable, competent and professional graduates in languages and related fields. With the founding of the faculty, it is hoped that the field of language studies can be expanded by means of examining, researching and disseminating knowledge in the field of languages and linguistics. Moreover, one of USIM’s main aspirations is to encourage the development of global, confident and competitive graduates, who are also equipped with multi-lingual abilities.  Not only does USIM aspire to produce graduates who possess the ablity to investigate and gain knowledge of culture and civilisations,  but the institution also aims to encourage tolerant, dynamic and visionary individuals who can contribute to the human resource needs of the nation.  USIM’s aim to produce such graduates would also be in line with the government’s aspiration of becoming a developed and competitive nation, on a global scale, thus, the faculty aims to instill the multi-lingual abilities of graduates through various programmes and seminars such as the Language and Education Conference.
