48th Federation of ASEAN Economic Associations (FAEA)
Conference
19-20 November 2025
Venue: TBC
Theme: Building ASEAN’s Resilience: Sustainability, Digitalization, and Inclusivity
The 48th Federation of ASEAN Economic Associations (FAEA) Conference will be held on 19-20 November 2025 hosted by Malaysian Economic Association (MEA) and Faculty of Business and Economics, Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The 48th FAEA Conference convenes at a pivotal moment as Malaysia assumes the ASEAN chairmanship in 2025, steering regional cooperation amidst rising geopolitical risks, economic fragmentation, technological decoupling, and demographic shifts. The current U.S. administration’s implementation of significant tariffs on major trading partners and withdrawal from international climate commitments presents ASEAN economies with complex challenges and strategic opportunities in navigating an increasingly uncertain global landscape.
This conference aims to foster dialogue and exchange of ideas on strategies to strengthen regional trade and economic integration, enhance social protection, and promote inclusive growth. We welcome discussions on the transformative role of digitalization in reshaping labor markets, human capital development, and technological innovation, as well as pathways for ASEAN’s transition towards a green economy and sustainable development. By bringing together economists, policymakers, and industry experts, the conference seeks to generate forward-looking insights on strengthening ASEAN’s position in the global economy while ensuring that development benefits are widely shared across diverse communities within the region.
The Program Committee is now issuing a call for papers related to the conference theme and for papers on a wide range of economic issues. We invite submissions that offer fresh perspectives, innovative approaches, and interdisciplinary analyses to shape a more resilient, sustainable, and inclusive ASEAN in response to current global challenges. We consider all academic papers that are applied, empirical and policy-relevant in nature and related to ASEAN. Theory papers that are relevant to the theme of the conference and can develop applied research will also be considered. Possible topics for session titles and papers include, but are not limited to, the following:
