Introduction

Food security and food safety are interrelated with a huge impact on quality of human life. FAO defined food security as; "Food security exists when all people, at all times, have physical, social and economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food which meets their dietary needs and food preferences for an achieve and healthy life”. The Food Aid Foundation estimated 1 in 7 people are undernourished, mostly in developing countries, while 1/3 of the food we produced is wasted. Food security is affected by many factors including climate change. Recently, many studies have examined the impacts of climate change on crop and animal productivity. However, food security relies not only on availability but also on ability of the families' access to the available food which depend on income, food prices, and in addition, the food must be safe for consumption.

Food safety is an umbrella term that encompasses many aspects of handling, preparation, processing, storage and distribution of food from farm to fork to ensure the food is safe for consumption. Included under the umbrella are chemical, microbiological and microphysical aspects of food safety. A priority of food chemical quality is control of allergens which can be life threatening to some people. Many food animals carry bacteria that are pathogenic to humans while increasing foodborne illnesses are occurring
due to contaminated fruits and vegetables. Programs such as Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) have been implemented to reduce food safety risks in many industrialized countries. However, the extent and how the developing and newly emerging economies are managing this food safety issue is less known.

The challenge of food security and safety is to assure that all people have access to enough food that is safe. Are We Ready? The 1st International Conference on Food Security and safety (ICOFSS2020) addresses the above issue from the national to global perspectives. It provides a platform to academicians, researchers, industry players, students, non-government organization personnel to share experiences and to charter the way forward to achieve global food security and safety. Contributions through bridging of current knowledge-gaps in food security and safety will be presented in the
conference.
