KEYNOTE SPEAKER: Datuk Dr. Mohd Daud Bakar
Honourable Datuk Dr. Mohd Daud Bakar is currently the third Chair Professor in Islamic Banking and Finance of Yayasan Tun Ismail Mohamed Ali Berdaftar (YTI) PNB at Faculty of Economics and Muamalat, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM). In addition, he serves as the Chairman of the Shariah Advisory Council at the Central Bank of Malaysia, the Securities Commission of Malaysia, and the International Islamic Liquidity Management Corporation (IILMC).
Datuk Dr. Mohd Daud Bakar is also a Shariah board member of various global financial institutions, including Morgan Stanley (Dubai), Bank of London and Middle East (London), and Dow Jones Islamic Market Index (New York). He is the Founder and Executive Chairman of Amanie Group and one of its flagship companies namely Amanie Advisors, is operating in 8 cities globally.
He received his first degree in Shariah from the University of Kuwait in 1988 and obtained his PhD from University of St. Andrews, United Kingdom in 1993. He has published more than 30 articles in various academic journals and presented more than 150 papers in various conferences both local and abroad. His first book entitled “Shariah Minds in Islamic Finance: An Inside Story of A Shariah Scholar” has won the “Islamic Finance Book of the Year 2016” by Global Islamic Finance Award (GIFA) 2016.
Datuk Dr. Mohd Daud Bakar was awarded “The Asset Triple A Industry Leadership Award” at The Asset Triple A Islamic Finance Award in 2014 by The Asset magazine. He was named as the “Most Outstanding Individual”, by His Majesty, the King of Malaysia, in conjunction with the national-level Prophet Muhammad’s birthday 2014. Under his leadership, Amanie Advisors was awarded “Islamic Economy Knowledge Infrastructure Award”, at the Global Islamic Economy Summit 2015, by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Oct 2015. In the corporate world, he sits as a Board Director at Sime Darby Berhad and has recently been appointed as a member of the PNB Investment Committee.

The conference will be held at Sundus Rotana Hotel, Muscat, Oman. The distance of Hotel to Muscat International Airport is 3 km that could be reached within 7 minutes driving. Sundus Rotana Hotel is easily accessible by expressway to nearest hotels: Golden Tulip Seeb Hotel (3.4km- 8 min driving), Hormuz Grand Hotel (2.6km- 6 min driving), Hotel Al-Madinah (11.4km- 16min driving), etc.
