30th National Symposium on Mathematical Sciences (SKSM30)

“Mathematical Sciences as a Catalyst for Universal Technological Advancement”

26 & 27 September 2023
Hotel Raia, Kedah, Malaysia

Prof. Dr. Siti Aishah Hashim Ali
Open University Malaysia (OUM)

Professor Dr. Siti Aishah Hashim Ali is a Professor in Applied Mathematics at Open University Malaysia (OUM), where currently she is the General Manager for Learner Experience and Technology Division.  She holds a PhD in Applied Mathematical Physics from University of Malaya and a Master and Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics from University of Miami and Old Dominion University, Norfolk, USA. Prof. Siti Aishah is no stranger to education community in Malaysia, having spent 22 years as a lecturer and an associate lecturer at University Malaya (UM) prior to joining Open University Malaysia in 2011.

Her research area is mathematical modeling and simulation; focusing on solitary waves, fractals studies and lithium-ion battery. She has published more than 50 articles and presented in various conferences and won several awards, both locally and internationally. She also holds a patent for her research work in modeling of fractal dimension and has supervised Master and Phd students in these areas. Drawing on 32 years of experience in education, Prof. Siti Aishah now expands her horizon by focusing on Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and learning technologies.

From 2013 to 2017, Prof Siti was which is an affiliated college of Open University Malaysia (OUM).  Throughout her years with Meteor Group, Prof Siti Aishah has served as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of International Open College (IOC); and as the OUM’s Registrar, the Deputy Vice President (Research & Innovation) the Cluster Chair and the Deputy Director of Institute for Teaching and Learning Advancement (ITLA).  Working together with academicians and executives, she continuously looks for improvement in digital aspects of teaching and learning in an open and distance learning (ODL) platform such as instructional materials and technology support.

Beside her academic work, Prof. Siti loves to contribute to the society through several non-profit organizations Malaysia-Japan 21st Century Friendship Society (PAMAJA) and ASSAK. She is  a Fellow of Malaysian Mathematical Society and has received various awards and recognition for her contributions and social services. She loves to spend her weekends giving talks and conducting mathematics camps and fun learning activities to school children all over the country.

UniMAP is an engineering university whose role is to produce highly skilled engineers specialized in fulfilling and supporting the National Industrial Master Plan. Through the establishment of IMK, it is hoped that the aspiration can be made a better reality. In addition to being responsible for the construction of the latest curriculum, the strengthening of mathematics teaching and internationalization issues, IMK began to make strides in creating several related research disciplines, particularly in revealing the importance of mathematics in engineering. IMK also identified several new perspectives for the field of engineering that are felt to be able to contribute towards the progress and benefit of society.
In an attempt to gain recognition and a place among similar institutions in the education sector in Malaysia and overseas, IMK definitely needs to have a platform that takes part in highlighting and implementing its role as a research, education, development and community service institutions. Therefore, this conference is expected to give an opportunity to IMK to be a motivator and leader for the consolidation and development of engineering mathematics at the higher education level.

This conference will be the best forum for academics and industrial movers to discuss the use of mathematics and statistics in hot topics nowadays, namely big data. Technological advances over the past 20 years have transformed many transactions into a data-intensive environment. It can be applied to make the best decisions, requiring a combination of deep domain knowledge and statistical analysis, calculation, and applied mathematics skills. This combination is known as predictive analytics.

In connection with that, IMK has taken the initiative to organize this conference with support from PERSAMA. Through the organization of these conferences, IMK can prepare well for the challenges in the future.

The scope of interest of the conference include but are not limited to:

a) Full papers will be evalkuated and considered for publication in the following journals/proceedings :

* The final decision of the publication of the papers is subject to terms and conditions set by the proceedings and journal editors respectively.
