Public policy is the action taken by Government to address a particular public issue. Local, state, federal and international government organization all craft and implement public policy to protect and benefit their populations. Public policy would determine the scope, limits and forms of social action. In Islamic economic system, the public policy framework is designed based on the principles and guidelines of Shari’ah. Shari’ah as the basis and foundational framework of public policy would be implemented as a means for realization of maṣlaḥah (wellbeing), ‘adalah (justice), brotherhood (ukhuwwah), trust and responsible (amānah) and other objectives as envisaged in the maqāṣid al-Shari’ah. The Shari’ah therefore functions as the code of public policy, social conduct and the means of realizing Islamic objectives in society and regulating social discourse and social change.

While numerous researches on Islamic finance and other aspects of Islamic economy has been done. This area is relatively untouched. Therefore, a platform and avenue to discuss this subject-matter is very important.

This inaugural conference on Shariah Oriented Public Policy in Islamic Economic System is jointly organized by IRTI (International Research and Training Institute) of IDB and Faculty of Shari’ahand Islamic Economics, State Islamic University Ar-Raniry, Banda Aceh, Indonesia. The conference is the premier avenue for ideas sharing and discussion on public policy in Islamic framework. In addition to that, a workshop on specific theme on Public Policy delivered by academicians and policy makers will also be organized in early session of each conference days.

Theoretical and empirical research papers are invited in English, Arabic and Bahasa Indonesia or Malaysia languages in the following topics and other related areas are welcomed to be submitted to this conference.

Papers in English, Arabic, Bahasa Indonesia and Bahasa Malaysia are accepted to be presented at the conference.

Papers have to follow the following formatting: A4 paper, Single space, font: TNR 12, with a maximum of 25 pages including references. All papers must be submitted via online submission system.

The excellent papers (in English) presented at the conference (20-30 papers) will be edited and published in a book on Shari’ah Oriented Public Policy in Islamic Economic System by IRTI Publication Unit and or Emerald Group Publication. In addition to that, selected papers in Bahasa Indonesia and Bahasa Malaysia will be edited in a book on “Orientasi Syari’ah dalam Kebijakan Publik: Gagasan dan Penerapan” and will be published by Ar-Raniry Press and also in Special Edition of the Journal Media Syari’ah.
