MENDEL LECTURE:

Professor Ronald Bontrop, Biomedical Primate Research Centre, The Netherlands
Topic: Immunogenetics in the Fast Lane

BACKGROUND:

Genetics is a branch of Biology that deals with the science of heredity, genes, and DNA - the building block of life. Since Gregor Mendel first motioned the theory of heredity in 1865 to the present time, this branch of biology never ceases to progress, advancing our quality of life. Therefore, knowledge and understanding of Genetics is pertinent to improve our everyday life be it in the form of the food that we eat and the healthcare quality that we receive. To celebrate Genetics breakthroughs and its impact to our everyday life, Genetics Society of Malaysia is proud to organise the 15th Genetics Congress Series. This 2-day event will address the latest issues and breakthroughs in Genetics worldwide. More than 20 local and international keynote and invited speakers are expected to deliver their outstanding research achievements. The Congress intends to provide a platform and opportunities for participants to interact, discuss, and formulate novel ideas in Genetics. Therefore, we would like to call upon all geneticists, breeders, scientists, researchers, academicians, biotechnologists, industrialists, and students to participate in our congress.

CONFERENCE TRACK:

1.    MEDICINE & HEALTH SCIENCES
"Explore how advances in genetics improve the quality of life, leading to the invigorating era of precision medicine. Come and share the latest updates in cancer biology, stem cell therapy, pharmacogenetics, herbal therapy, immunogenetics, molecular diagnostic tools, bioinformatics and 'omics' technology. This Congress provides a great opportunity to establish local and global research networking for fundamental-translational research from bench to bedside applications".

2.    FOOD & AGRICULTURE
"The world population is projected to reach 9.7 billion in 2050 which equates to having an additional one and a half population of China to feed. Food production through conventional ways, however, seems very challenging under extreme weather and finite resources. Thus, genetic research and innovations play an important role in ensuring the sustainability of food and agricultural productions worldwide to avoid food crises. Let’s all join our efforts together in this Congress to make this a reality."

3.    BIODIVERSITY & CONSERVATION
"Recognise the importance of conserving the biodiversity of our ecosystems. Our ecosystems are extremely important natural resources that can be sustainably harvested and managed to produce a diversity of commodities of economic importance may it be plants, animals or even microbes. Join us in preserving genetic diversity and promoting conservation efforts to ensure sustainability not only ecologically but also genetically."
